Nodding her head she listened closely to Professor Selwyn. The spell looked simple enough to do. She liked Simple spells, they were fun to do and were good practice. Even thought this spell wasn't advance magic, it was still a spell. A very important one at that matter.
Looking around the buzzing room filled with students, she peered over heads looking for Corie. Not being able to see her she sighed and made her way over to the locked doors. She decided she would work herself today, she maybe would later on move around the room to see how her friends were getting on.
Thinking of the Words Professor Selwyn said, she let them run through her head. "you must know exactly what you intend the charm to do for it work properly. Just saying in the incantation isn't enough"
That made a lot of sense to Justine, she agreed with him. Taking out her wand she looked down at one of the bolted doors. This one had a brass iron lock on it. Closing her eyes she cleared her mind thinking hard on what she was going to do. "i want to unlock the door" she said in her head, "i want to unlock the door, thats what i want to do" she said again concentrating.
Opening her eyes again, she pointed her wand down, keeping that thought in her head, she spoke in a loud but soft voice. "Alohamora" she said watching she the door clicked open. Smiling at her work she moved to the next one maybe she could work with someone this time. If not then she was happy enough that she had already done it.
After most of the students were all present and in their seats, finished with writing down what the Professor had instructed to write down and answer, he then started on discussing a bit. Marianne listened attentively with her elbow propped on her desk, letting her chin rest on her palm as the other hand was tapping the quill on a certain part of the parchment. She was very much tempted to stray from the lecture and start doodling on her papers, but if she were to get good grades she had to focus. It was fortunate of her to have been able to sleep last night, usually she never really did sleep but she did then. So she was wide awake and not on the verge of dropping her head down on the desk and closing her eyes to let herself be taken away to dreamland, but it was still a bit boring.
They were just learning on the Unlocking Charm which was a very simple spell and almost everyone can do it, to think she was even a bit excited to have a practical lesson at Charms today, only for it to be as simple as unlocking a door. Nevertheless she didn't really have the choice to argue since if she caused any trouble she might cause Slytherin some points, which is something she wouldn't like to do since she always wants her beloved house to be on top like it should be. It was now time for the students to go around and pick a door to practice on, whether alone or with a partner. Surely with Marianne's attitude of not liking people and often finding it hard to trust people, she would rather do it alone. There were two Slytherin boys in the class who were causing a bit of a ruckus, one using a blasting curse on the door rather than the unlocking charm that was instructed by the Professor.
But she paid no mind since it was none of her business anyway, there was a Ravenclaw girl who looked like she was rather awkward being around people she didn't know and a Gryffindor girl who had just finished her first lock and was off looking for another. Marianne didn't think of being partners with any, so she resumed with her own business. She picked a closed lock and pointed her wand at it, concentrating on the purpose of the spell and that was to unlock this certain lock. "Alohamora." she said in a firm voice, and with a simple click it was open.
Tabithia was sitting in the front, as she took notes and listened to the Professor. He's actually a great Charms professor, the Gryffindor has learned more about charms in his class. She listened and attentively and Tabi's eyes followed wherever the professor moved. She also scanned the room to see that there are a few different houses in the room. Some weren't even paying attention which is such a disappointment because Charms is so much fun to learn about. When Tabithia saw what was on the board, she scribbled down the answers.
Classification: Charm Incantation: Alohomora Pronunciation: al-LOH-ha-MOR-ah Description: Alohomora is a door unlocking spell. Etymology: It is From the West African Sidiki dialect and it means: Friendly to thieves
When she was done she put down her quill when she heard the professor instruct us to unlock some locks he had for us. I got out of my seat and walked around pointing at the locks that weren't unlocked by some of the other students. "Alohomora" Tabi whispered to herself, and smiled when the lock magically unlocked it self, she moved on and unlocked all of the locks she had encountered with.

Lloyd listened carefully to the professors instructions, slightly overhearing the conversation the other two Slytherin boys were having. He gave a small smile. If Charms wasn't his favorite subject, he was sure he would've joined in, as well. But, he didn't want to get in trouble in Charms. He didn't want to fail Charms, either. Especially since many of the spells were simple and the ones that weren't were all mind over matter and all that.
With his head propped on his hand (that was propped on the desk in front of him), Lloyd watched the professor perform the spell himself. He knew how easy it was, he'd seen a few people perform it. It was a good spell to know. Especially if you wanted to break into forbidden rooms and the works. Of course, that could get you in trouble... still, the spell could come in handy. Lloyd couldn't think of a moment when at the time, but he was sure something would come to him eventually.
He watched as a few people around the room began performing the spell, unlocking things (one of the Slytherin boys deciding to take it upon himself to open the door in a different way, causing Lloyd to chuckle and whisper to him "Nice...") Lloyd would've found a partner, but didn't know anyone in the room, except Alina, and they were mostly secret friends. So, he stood by himself, in front of a door and got his wand ready. Thinking hard about what he wanted to do (unlock the door, unlock the door) "Alohomora!" he finally said, and with a simple click, it was unlocked.

Brody raised an eyebrow at the professor's words, and extracted his wand lazily. He rolled his eyes at two Slytherin boys who showed off, sighing inwardly at their actions, despite being a little amused if truth were told. Glancing around the room, he saw people begin to perform the ordered instructions, and smirked. He took great strides towards a jet black door with heavy looking bolts keeping it shut, and tilted his head as he prepared to cast the spell.
Near him was a Slytherin boy he vaguely recognised from a brief and somewhat uncomfortable encounter in the dungeons. He nodded stiffly before turning his concentration back to the door. His lip curled slightly as he pictured the intent of his spell once. Just unlock the door. With that, he flicked his wand neatly and muttered the spell.
'Alohomora!' There was a satisfying click, and the door swung leisurely open as he prodded it with a spindled finger, looking bored as the spell worked. He glanced around to see that most of the other students had also managed the same.

Corie looked around, and jumped violently as the sound of a door being crudely blown open resounded throughout the classroom. She glanced at Selwyn shyly as he turned to confront the noise and glanced round, unwilling to work on her own. Eventually, she saw Justine focusing on a heavy iron bolt door, and a smile made its way onto her face as she hurried over, swerving neatly between students as she went.
She watched from a respectful distance as Justine closed her eyes and focused on the door. When she eventually unlocked it, Corie cheered quietly and stepped closer to congratulate her. She grinned at Justine as she extracted her wand.
'Alright if I work with you?' she smiled, gesturing to the door to show what she meant. After a moment, she turned her own attention to the door, which had seamlessly relocked itself with a clunk, and was looking a rather daunting challenge. She bit her lip, aware that nobody had failed so far, and not wanting to be a first. She closed her eyes, and held her wand hand shakily out, thinking with all her might. Unlock the bolts, open the door. Just unlock it. She thought mechanically, picturing the bolts unlocking flawlessly. When she could concentrate no longer, she brandished her wand slightly and muttered 'Alohomora!'
There was an awful moment of silence, and Corie's stomach dropped as she thought she'd failed the assignment. But then, there was a resonating click, and the bolts came unlocked. Corie grinned and high fived Justine triumphantly, turning slightly to see whether the professor had been looking.

Ranth sidled up to one of the doors, keeping an eye on how the other students were performing the spell. Corie looked quite nervous about the whole thing, causing his smile to widen as she unlocked the door perfectly, allowing it to swing softly by the hinges.
Turning to his own wooden block, Ranth examined the lock quickly before deciding it wouldn't be difficult to imagine it moving to his will, and allowed his wand arm to raise. Pointing it directly in the center of the metal contraption he muttered strongly "Alohomora." A small smirk crept its way onto his face as the lock clicked and creaked under the pressure of his spell, before causing the door to open smoothly away from him.
Feeling slightly accomplished, Ranth moved to close the door again in preparation for the next student, and went to sit back on his stool to write down the details he couldn't be bothered to conjure up previously.

Dylan barely glanced over at the troublesome Slytherin student, flicking his wand over his shoulder to repair the damage. "10 points from Slytherin, Mr. Grayhorn. Misuse magic in this class again and I will be seeing you in detention." Turning sharp green eyes on the boy, he allowed his voice to carry throughout the class. "Blasting open a door is neither easier nor wiser than simply unlocking it. There will come a time when making an entrance is the last thing on your mind, not to mention this charm is effective on far more than a door. Once you have mastered the spell, it can be used for smaller more complicated locks and eventually even the abstract concept of unlocking something. Taking the time to learn basic spells can open avenues of magic that remain hidden to most wizards."
Moving to his desk, he leaned against the edge as he watched the rest of the class. Several students successfully unlocked their doors, a half smile on his face at their success. It certainly wasn't a complicated spell, though oddly enough it was one that came in handy many times over his life. People seemed to believe the harder a spell was, the better it was. However, with basic spells forgotten, using such a spell often proved the safest way to break dark curses. He kept a close eye on the errant Slytherin boy in case the student decided to try and test his Professor. Everyone else was behaving themselves, dutifully practicing the charm. "Alright, it seems you have a basic grasp on the charm. Let's make it a bit more complicated. In order to unlock larger or smaller locks, you must control the amount of magic you release in the spell."
He said, conjuring some small boxes with locks that were so small they were almost hard to see along with some that were about the size of a quaffle. "With small locks you must be precise, too much magic and the lock will break. Not a problem if you don't care about what you are unlocking, but the idea is to control your magic. Charms is about more than just learning new ways to do things, it is a continuation of figuring out how to control your magic. Large locks require more magic and greater focus; it is a bit like flexing your magical muscles." He held up one of the tiny locks, his eyes focusing on it as it gently clicked open. Inside was a pumpkin pasty. "There are various treats inside, any you manage to open you may have. But be forewarned, using any other spells or damaging the lock will turn the treat into a bat. Have fun."

Listening to his words, Corie gripped her wand tightly in anticipation of the next challenge set. She listened to his words, nodding slightly so as to take them in fully, eyes full of admiration as she averted them from the professor before her. She tilted her head at the boxes conjured before them, and took a step forward to gently examine the lock with delicate fingers.
Turning to Justine who was still behind her, she grimanced a little, knowing that she had a tendency to leave all her spells at their full power for full effect. But that wouldn't work here.
'Really intricate little locks,' she muttered to Justine as she stood and aimed her wand at the lock, her hand shaking slightly as nerves shot through her. She tried to steady it by breathing deeply and locking eyes with the small padlock before her. She was completely focused, before she caught sight of someone approaching, and brandished her wand a little too extravagantly.
'Alohomora!' she shouted, jumping awkwardly as she was shocked out of focus, and heard the lock break. Biting her lip, she flicked her wand to open the lid, and watched as a bat flew out of the box, to the screams and displeasure of the other students. Her hand trembled more as she took a tighter grip on her wand, and found herself determined to try again. She glanced at Selwyn with pained eyes, before stepping to the other box, frowning slightly.
Weighing her wand in her hand, she knelt next to the box, eyes assessing the tiny lock as she blocked all other noise from her ears, brushing her hair gently from her eyes as she placed her wand gently on the lock. 'Alohomora!' she tried again, her voice trembling even as she focused. Hesitantly, she placed a hand on the lid as the lock clicked gently, and lifted the lid to peer inside; expecting a bat to fly at her any second. A pumpkin pasty lay inside, and she lifted it triumphantly, storing it in her robe as she whirled and made her way back to Justine, feeling the eyes of others on her with a blush. She smiled at Selwyn as she passed, and jumped on Ranth's desk, grin plastered on her face.

He listened carefully to the professors next set of instructions, glaring for one brief moment at the boy that has caused Slytherin to lose house points. They might've had a lot, but last time he checked, some of the houses were quickly catching up. Still, he wouldn't let the idea of losing the cup to Gryffindor- or worse, Hufflepuff- get in the way of his lesson. This was a simple charm and he didn't want to look like a complete git getting it wrong. So, he turned his attention to the little box he was supposed to unlock. The thought of a treat made him want to open it even more. He couldn't deny that his stomach was demanding food.
Without even thinking, he pointed his wand, "Alohomora!" but, he supposed the force of the spell was too strong. Silently cursing himself for momentarily forgetting the professors warning about controlling the charm... and the silly comparison to flexing your muscles... he watched as the lock busted open and a bat flew into the air. He nearly fell backward at the sight- jumping instantly to his feet. He mumbled a swear word under his breath and sat back down.
He tried to calm himself- it wasn't like he was afraid of bats- and, in fact, he should've been prepared for it, they had been warned... but, still, the sight of the bat caught him off guard. Frowning, he prepared to try and unlock another one. This time, he did a simple swish and flick movement. Alohomora. he said. The lock clicked and inside was a pastry. Smiling to himself, he went on ahead and opened another box, suddenly forgetting about the unpleasant bat.

Charms. Charms. Charms. Charming, charms. She curled her upper lip, having chosen a seat farthest away from both Envilas and Aaron. The two were inseparable, as always, but anymore, Victoria had nothing but contempt for the duo. An unlocking charm was possibly one of the easiest things in the world to do, hence why Victoria was more interested in doodling on parchment than actually paying any attention to the lesson at all. She'd done this charm several dozen times in one sitting in London a while back with Adelle. She narrowed her eyes, only looking up when a voice all too familiar to her spoke of himself as being superior and then, as usual as it was with this particular voice, an explosion followed shortly after, then the applause from Aaron. Soon, the display was reprimanded by their teacher, causing a loss of points from their house.
"Good job, Princess Grayhorn," she spat, her voice curdling at his name. There really wasn't an explanation to why she detested him so these days. Other than the obvious, but.. well, we won't go into that. Very few knew of the night in the empty classroom and Victoria didn't care if it kept silent or not. She quickly ripped a new piece of parchment up, scrawling out the bits of information on the page.
After this, she stood up, extracting her wand from her boot and twirling it in her fingers, tapping at the door handle with it and then rapping on the door itself. After careful consideration of the locks, she blinked a few times, tapping her wand against each of the locks, as if weighing her options. 'Unlock the door,' she thought, before whispering the charm, a coo of a siren. "Alohamora." The door slid open, the lock not making a sound. She smirked for a second, before raising an eyebrow. A bat, he said? How delightful. Treats were for children, but bats.. bats were.. She pointed her wand's tip at the box and giggled a bit. 'Turn my treat into a bat, blow up the lock, unlock.' she jeered in her mind, before whipping her wand. 'Unlock the box,' she thought once more. "Alohamora," she spoke once more, the lock popping open and the box popping open as well. Inside was a little bat-shaped cookie of sorts. She smirked, raising an eyebrow and shooting a glance towards the professor as she extracted her prize.
"It seems I get the best of both worlds," she purred, breaking off a piece of the cookie and slipping it into her mouth, glancing around the room, then making her way back to her seat. Her wand had been re-sheathed into her boot. She batted her eyelashes, taking small nibbles at the sugary treat.
She may be crazy, but cookies were not something to screw up over. She had said to turn her treat into a bat. Who knew that she meant a bat-shaped treat?
He watched as the other students milled forward obediently to fulfil the set task, smirk creeping onto his face as the blue haired excuse for a witch managed to mess her turn up successfully. He chuckled darkly as he swept past her, watching her face flush with humiliation before turning his attention swiftly to his own box.
Not bothering to dwell long on his intention, he allowed his concentration to stray to Victoria, who managed to break her lock, but avoid the consequences as she transformed her bat into a treat with fluent wandwork. He shot her a smirk and nodded curtly to show his approval of the move, before aiming his wand precisely at the center of the lock, and allowing his eyes to dull slightly as he breathed deeply.
'Alohomora,' he said in a calm and clear voice, straining to hear the sound of the lock, eyes flickering across the box before he heard the satisfying click, and waved his wand again to pull the lid, revealing his treat. Leaning down, he swept it up, twirling it between his fingers, before stalking back to allow someone else a chance, nibbling delicately on the edge of the treat as he joined the mass of green in the classroom, nodding curtly at his classmates.

Julie hurried along the corridors so she could get to Charms she hoped the class would be interesting. Entering the classroom she saw the class was already close to being full. There wasn't many chairs left which annoyed Julie. She hated having to try and navigate her way through the classroom. Oh well, next time she would just have to get to class quicker. She was slightly nervous since most of the students looked older then her. she felt slightly out of place.
Julie pulled out her parchment, quills and wand and quickly took down the notes on the board.
Classification: Charms Spells Incantation: Alohamora Pronunciation: al-lo-ha-MOR-ah Description: Used to open and unlock doors Etymology: Alohamora is derived from the West African Sidiki dialect used in geomancy meaning: Friendly to thieves
She would have not have much time to practice so she would have to practice the spell for homework. Julie figures she would be probably to fit in one practice for the end of class and hopefully unlock a couple of doors. She lined her wand up to the door, took a deep breath and said "Alohamora" in a calm voice. Even though, she had butterflies flying inside her stomach. Listening and watching carefully she was slightly disappointed when the door didn't do anything.
Trying again she focused on unlocking the door. Looking once again at the door she though of the door unlocking itself. "Alohamora" she said. The door of the trunk clicked and the door opened slowly. Julie was extremely glad that she had accomplished the spell. Looking around she saw most other people had also managed to complete the charm. Julie still needed more practice but that would have to wait until after class.
