A sigh escaped Dasha's lips as she made her way up to the owlery, small shoulders hunched over against the cold breeze. Her gloved hands were shoved into the pockets of her black leather jacket and her black and white checkered scarf was pulled closely around her neck. The hour was late, just around dinner time, but tonight, Dasha was skipping. She wasn't all that hungry and wanted some time away from all the ruckus.
Dasha entered the owlery and looked up at all the owls. A slight smile played at her soft lips and the breeze whistled outside the closure. A few of the owls hooted softly and Dasha scanned the area for her own owl. She spotted the tiny thing just near the end of the post, all by her lonesome.
"Av, c'mere," she called up to her. The owl's head swivled to face Dasha, yellow eyes widening. With a soft hoot, the owl fluttered down to Dasha's outstretched arm, perching upon her wrist. The owl was the tiniest thing, but compared to Dasha's size, was perfect. She was a light brown and very young.
"Are the other owls picking on you again?" Dasha murmured, stroking the owl's feathers gently. Dasha was the biggest animal person and while most people used their owls just for sending things, Dasha loved hers as a pet. She leaned her back up against the wall, lifting her boot to press it against the wall as well.

Dinner used to be something Rosaline enjoyed. A lot. But, after the change, a lot changed. The food they served didn't always completely satisfy her. Some days were better than others, that day was one of the worse days. She'd tried eating but failed and, in the end, decided to leave the Great Hall in search for what, she did not know. Her owl was out delivering a message and wouldn't be back for some time. But, still, she made her way up to the Owlery, looking around as she entered.
Many students didn't like the Owlery. It was loud, dirty and smelled bad. But, Rosaline didn't mind spending her time with the many neglected owls and giving them attention. Since she'd spent time with that Hufflepuff kid, she'd learned to appreciate animals for who they were- not what they were. And when you viewed someone as a who and not a what, you were much softer to their wants and needs.
She heard the other Gryffindor speak and glanced over as she called a random owl to her shoulder. She fed the creature a treat and spoke, giving the other student a small smile. "Sorry... I just like spending time with them sometimes, I suppose. Especially lately. They help me to feel better, I guess. Why do the other owls pick on him?"

Dasha had flicked her gaze to her fellow Gryffindor, and then back to her own olw. She continued to stroke her feathers gently, using one finger just to pet her head. The owl closed its eyes as she did so, seeming to cuddle down into her own feathers. Dasha returned the other girl's smile, but it went as fast as it had come.
"She's smaller than the rest and if I'm not correct, I do believe that this is as big as she's gonna get," she replied, her voice soft and quiet naturally. "She tries to defend herself, but ends up with alot of feathers floating around when she does." Dasha reached into the pocket of her black jacket, pulling out a treat of her own. It looked like some type of candy and the owl's eyes opened and then grew very wide. The smile returned to Dasha's face as the owl gave out a soft hoot. She held the peice of candy before the owl's face and the owl plucked it gently from her fingers.
"Not hungry either?" Dasha asked the other girl, flicking her blue eyes to her face for a few second before averting her gaze again. "Sorry, I don't mean to be nosey."

Rosaline nodded slightly, her own smile fading quickly. It was sad when anyone was picked on for being different- man or mammal. She knew the feeling. She was often picked on for being a half blood and for being a ginger, as well. Granted, people had mostly ceased the taunting once they found out she embraced who she was. Yet, still, when it was going on, it hurt. "She's cute because she's small. Maybe, one day, the other owls will accept her. It happens sometimes. Maybe our owls can be friends. Who knows? It could work. Generally, my owl is nice." she nodded silently. More to herself than the girl before her.
She softly pet the owl that was before her before he turned and flew away, to return to his post. She was sure another one would come. They always did. That was how they did it too. They joined her one by one, until every owl who wanted a treat had had a treat. Rosaline's smile returned as well when the other students owl gave a soft hoot and took the treat. Silently, she shook her head in reply to the question. "It's okay, really. I tried to eat but... I just wasn't hungry."

Dasha nodded, pulling a letter out of her pocket. Av lifted her foot so that Dasha could tie the letter to it and she gave the owl one last treat before watching her fly right out one of the windows. The little creature flew faster than ever, giving out another hoot as she gradually disappeared. Dasha nodded to the other girl.
"I know what you mean," she replied. "I'm Dasha, by the way." Her blue eyes fixed themselves upon the girl, studying her for just a moment before Dasha glanced back out the pane-less window. Now, hopefully her mum wouldn't be so freaked out since Dasha hadn't written to her in a month. In her mum's last letter, she threatened to send a howler.

Rosaline watched in silence as Dasha pulled a letter out of her pocket and handed it to her owl. She watched in just as much silence as the creature took off out the window. It had been so long since Rosaline had sent a letter out that she was sure her owl was growing bored. Probably even restless. Ever since her family had almost virtually stopped talking to her, receiving owls and sending owls was a rare treat for the Gryffindor. The few times she did receive an owl, she did it with the gratefulness of a house elf doing his job.
Rosaline nodded. "I'm Rosaline. Rosaline Drummond. I believe we're in the same year, right? Same house, too. Obviously. Sorry for talking so much... I have a bad habit of doing that. If I ever talk your ear off, don't be afraid to tell me to shut up." she told the other with a slight giggle as she did so. "Writing to family?"

Dasha gave her yet another small smile, and then nodded in reply to second question.
"My mum freaks if I don't reply to her letter. She threatened to send a howler. She's living with my aunt right now and she worries alot," Dasha said with a small shrug of her shoulders. She looked towards the entrance of the owlery as a big gust of wind whistled loudly. God, she hated winter. It was awful and just as bad as being cooped up indoors.
"I think I could go for some hot cocoa," she muttered, stuffing her freezing hands into the pockets of her jacket grumpily. Dasha was always like this in the winter.

Rosaline nodded in slight understanding as Dasha explained how her mother was about writing. Honestly, Rosaline missed the days her mother had been that way. She couldn't remember the last time she'd received a letter from her, though. At that moment, she'd kill for a howler. Anything to know that the woman was still thinking of her magical daughter and not just the non magical one. "My mum used to." Rosaline said carefully, trying her hardest not to hint at anything so that no questions would be asked. "She used to send howlers a lot, too. I hate those. They're embarrassing. Especially when you receive them while you're in the Great Hall."
Rosaline caught the other girls mutter and gave her a warm grin. "I think I could, too." she said with a nod. "We can go get some? Because, despite all the things magic can do, produce food or drink out of nothing- or even something- isn't possible. Believe me, I've tried." she gave a small laugh, remembering the time in her first year when she'd been hungry and a Slytherin on the train had tricked her into trying to conjure a piece of cake. It didn't work and instead she conjured a rat.
